The Royal Dane is said to originate from Hawaii and, according to legend, was brought to Denmark by Bob Marley in the late 70s when he played at the Roskilde Festival. It has since been crossed with, among others, Blueberry, Hindu Kush, Cithral, ​​White Widow and White Russian.

The variety blooms for approx. 8 weeks and is very mold resistant, flowering starts early, and is finished approx. mid-August to mid-September. However, flowering and harvest times depend on the latitude at which it is grown (the higher the latitude, the later the harvest). According to the grower's description, the variety can be grown up to latitude 61.
